How to use the size guide

The size guide is remarkably useful!  Don’t be deceived by it’s appearance; that flat white plastic board with holes makes it so much easier to achieve balanced models that are in proportion.

Don’t be deceived by it’s appearance; that flat white plastic board with holes makes it so much easier to achieve balanced models that are in proportion.  Very often it is proportion which lets the cake decorator down, especially when you are starting out.  Each limb may be made beautifully but if that proportion is wrong the model will disappoint.

The size guide helps to keep your sizes in proportion and we use it on most of our modelling courses.  Simply roll a ball of paste and place in the relevant hole – it should sit one third below and two thirds above.  The main thing to be careful of is not to overfill the hole – the paste should not hang over the edge, it should sit within the hole.  If the paste falls through the hole it is too small.

We have lots of different modelling courses such as Introduction to modelling – teddy bear picnicIntroduction to Animal Modelling or Professional people modelling.  On all these courses we use the size guide.
